That kind of erases women’s agency. A woman can freely choose to wear a hijab or a habit, without that choice being the result of internalized misogyny. She has the ability to engage with the meaning of her religious practices and decide what they mean for herself. Just as high heels can either be read as either empowering or oppressive, so can a hijab.
I think a pretty significant difference that should be pointed out is ALL women being forced to wear something by law, and women freely choosing to live life a certain way… I’m not going to point out which is which, because I do believe it’s obvious.
What the hell, why are you guys freaking out? Both women choose to wear their clothing. It’s not a law that nuns must wear habits, and same with this lady in the picture. They aren’t being forced to do anything.. Well, not here in America they aren’t..
